New letters for my desk, purchased at Typo yesterday. I drove over to Bloomington to spend the day with Kayla Lamoreaux, the Yoda of photo organization and a frequent guest on The Digi Show. This little store full of irreverent stationery and random oddities was on her “must see” list.
I’m still debating on what color to paint the final “E”. Color choices were limited and I figured white would be easiest to paint over. Part of me feels like black would give it the most balance visually, but I also feel like it’s begging to be painted orange or lilac. Orange may win. What do you think?

Also scored these little finds for the boy, who still acts as though he invented the word “epic” any time anyone else adopts it as their catchphrase. They’ll add a little flavor to his assignment notebook – and undoubtedly he’ll want me to contact the store on his behalf to ask for royalties.
No matter what I’ll score some cool mom points.

I like the white E…. it gives the collection a sort of trailing-off, open-ended feel. And I love the epic stamp.

My husband likes it white, too. After I moved it toward the end of my desk the “E” winds up with the wall behind it rather than the window and it doesn’t seem as lost with the dark wall behind it. So … I may not rush to buy spray paint tomorrow, I might simmer on it for a bit longer.

Hi Peppermint! I’m not worried about the white “E” so much as I am concerned about the blue ‘r’ — it’s the only cool color. Painting the “E” orange will probably emphasis that even more. Maybe the lilac would give the “r” a cool friend! Joyce

Hmm, you raise some interesting points! Although even the red and the yellow are cool tones of red and yellow so I think as long as I didn’t pick an autumn orange (and instead picked a wildly orange-orange) I might be able to pull it off. But they did have some bright lilac letters in the store that were calling out to me. I was also feeling a little vintage green this morning. I might just wind up spray painting that letter a couple of times. Good thing spray paint is cheap.

You’re feeling vintage green? Walgreens carries something for that!

Definitely orange for the “E.”
And not to date myself or anything, but I remember when “epic” had its heydey in the mid-80′s in England, where I grew up. Cracks me up when I hear it spoken by this new generation of turf-stompers. Ha!

“This new generation of turf-stompers” is now my new favorite phrase. ♥ it!
