All Scratched Up

I love borders. I simply love them. Especially since I tend to leave a lot of negative space (a.k.a. white space) on my pages, because a well placed border can sort of “harness” your composition in so it doesn’t look alone, floating on the page. They’re also great for adding emphasis to a specific area of your page, or for distressing the edges of paper. I really love putting one on a piece of kraft paper and changing the blend mode to “overlay” because it creates a subtle, watermarked border. I could dig through my gallery to find a dozen different times that I used borders that way on a page.

I released the first edition of my All Scratched Up borders last spring and I’ve probably abused my usage of them. It was time to make some new ones. And so I present All Scratched Up No. 2 – now with more scratching.

In addition I made some smaller, less intense borders to use around photos, journaling blocks or other areas of your page you’d like to draw attention to. I made each of them a little more delicate with fine lines – but they’re really fun to stack! Stacking them creates a endless possibilities.

Both are 20% off through Sunday! No coupon necessary.

You can see how I used the living daylights out of these on this page I did for Nicholas’ album today:

JOURNALING: It seemed as though it was time to buy you an actual MP3 player since i often found you queuing up your favorite songs on YouTube (and using up my bandwidth.) you’ve had a few small ones, mainly hand-me-downs from me, but I was always inconsistent about putting new music on it and none of them supported features like playlists or album information. Enter your first 8GB Zune, just like the ones Tom & I both use at the gym. I put your own software on your laptop, added a bunch of your favorite songs, and you just figured it all out – like you always do. Within minutes you had organized playlists, added album art and even picked a custom background for your home screen. you never cease to amaze me with how fast you figure out gadgets. I remember when I’d walk past your room and catch you singing songs from Blue’s clues or The Wiggles, off-key and with your own lyric substitutions. So it thrills me to see you continue to enjoy music, and my heart swells a little when I walk past you and hear you singing along to your favorite songs – whether I like them or not.
