I added a Tumblr link to the top of my page – if you get a chance to check it out. I love the micro-blogging concept of Tumblr. I stumble upon a ton of totally irrelevant stuff during my daily web browsing – things that inspire me, things that make me laugh, things that I just plain covet. I’ve struggled with finding a solution on where to put them and Tumblr seems to fit the bill nicely with their ‘tumblelog’ structure. It’s sort of like Twitter without the character limits, in that you can follow different Tumblr feeds. I’m thinking of it as a bulletin board of sorts – a place to pin up little things that catch my eye. It has its own RSS feed and domain at http://tumblr.frickonastick.com so that it doesn’t interfere with my regular feed. I’ll see how it works.
Yesterday we went grocery shopping, which is always an experience when both Tom and the boy are with me.
Most of the time the manufacturers of generic items try to come up with a catchy play on words when naming their products – Fruit Loops become “Tootie Fruities”, Cheerios become “Happy-Os”, etc. But apparently when it came time to name the Flavorite version of Crispix cereal, they had exhausted every member of their creative team. There’s something to be said for truth in advertising:

What you see is what you get, people. No gimmicks here. The best part was when Tom spied the box on the shelf and burst out “CRISPY HEXAGONS! I LOVE CRISPY HEXAGONS!” and all the shoppers in his vicinity tried to conceal their laughter at his totally random outburst.
But this little gem took the cake yesterday.
Not just one, but TWO varieties of Bread-in-a-Can. New England’s Finest! Which makes me look at New England in a totally new light. I could not get the boy to stop begging for this canned bread. Tom and I had to keep saying “You’re not getting bread in a can!” even though I think both of us were going insane with curiosity.
And with a name like B&M – you just KNOW you’re getting quality food.

Crispy Hexagons AND B&M Bread in a Can?? I haven’t laughed this hard in 3 days. (and it’s been a LONG three days, trust me!) I even woke up my sweet husband to tell him about the bread.
Thanks for the super fun post.

Hey, that B&M bread is delish! It’s a rum raisin bread, sans any rum, but it isn’t raisin bread like what you are probably thinking.
You pull it out by taking a kinfe around the edges of the can, and then slice it into rounds about 1/2″ thick or a little thinner. It is fresh and wonderful, but we always spread some cream cheese on it and cut it into moon shapes and serve it open face. I once headed up a pitch in luncheon at school and had to call all the mothers to bring stuff for it and one mom brought little sandwiches with B&M bread and cream cheese filling. They went pretty fast.
B&M also makes baked beans, and when I was growing up we had them all the time. They came in a very attractively shaped jar that my older sister kept her change in. I always admired it, so I snagged one from the trash and my dad helped me put a slot in the lid so I could use it as a bank.
I ought to scrap that memory – I bet my sister doesn’t even remember her B&M bean jar full of change.

No self-respecting New Englander would eat that. Noooo way. We make our own from grandma’s recipe and a Maxwell House can. I’ll post the recipe for you over at CatScrap so your boy can make his own bread in a can. Maybe you’ll even discover a new hostess gift! It’ll be the new cake ball!
